There are moments when money ceases to be just a figure and takes on genuine meaning. One such moment unfolded this morning as entrepreneur Zannis Fratzeskos, visibly emotional, presented a cheque for €50,000 to Vasiliki Manousi, President of the Christodoulio Foundation for Girls in Haidari, honouring every word of a public commitment he had previously made.
The donation stems from compensation awarded to Fratzeskos following a successful defamation lawsuit against the news website Mononews and its publisher, Giorgos Dimitromanolakis.
- From the outset, Fratzeskos had publicly stated that he would not keep a single euro of the compensation, pledging instead to donate the entire amount to an organisation carrying out significant charitable work. Fratzeskos visited the Foundation accompanied by his wife and the wife of his lawyer, Nikolaos Agapinos, during a simple yet deeply emotional ceremony lasting approximately 25 minutes.
The emotion was unmistakable. The businessman was unable to hold back his tears as he met young girls full of hopes and dreams who are growing up without their parents, facing daily challenges while striving for a brighter future.
- During the visit, he was also given a tour of the Foundation’s facilities, where he witnessed first-hand the extensive improvements made possible through the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which has helped provide the children with a significantly improved living environment.
Today’s donation also carried profound personal symbolism. According to sources close to the family, Fratzeskos’ father was the first member of the Fratzeskos family to financially support the Christodoulio Foundation many years ago. By making this donation, Zannis Fratzeskos has continued that family tradition of philanthropy, demonstrating that the greatest value of a legal victory lies not in financial compensation, but in transforming it into hope and opportunity for children who need it most.
